The heart being the primary organ of the cardiovascular system supplies the body's cells with oxygen and nutrient-rich blood. The coronary arteries surrounding the heart keep it nourished with blood. Inside a healthy artery, red blood cells, white blood cells, lipids and other substances can flow freely to the heart. The walls of healthy heart have smooth and uniform thickness. But due to the process termed Atherosclerosis, plaque hardens and causes the artery to become narrow.
